The Genesis: The Tenets of Cultural Humility
+ In this session, leaders will explore the evolution of culture and the complexity of culture in a 21st century context. Leaders will learn the difference between cultural competence and cultural humility, and the merits of cultural humility in creating inclusive and safe spaces. Additionally, the genesis, history and evolution of cultural humility will be examined. Each session will be followed by discussion and questions and answers.
Cultural Humility: The Great Mitigator
+ In this session, leaders will examine the impact of cognitive biases on judgement. This session will focus on three heuristics: availability bias (decisions made based on knowledge that is readily available in our minds); representative (employs the use of past experiences to guide decision-making); and confirmation bias (the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms one's preexisting beliefs). This session will give participants the opportunity to self-reflect on their individual heuristics and learn how cultural humility, when employed can be effective in mitigating implicit and cognitive biases that are inherent in each of us. Leaders will also learn in this session how to shift from System 1 "rapid" thinking to a more thoughtful "System 2" way of thinking and approach each new encounter from a place of humility, self-reflection, openness and a genuine desire to learn and not assume.
Leading with Humility
+ This session will focus on cultural responsive leadership and how to arrive at culturally responsive pedagogies via cultural humility. This session will give leaders the opportunity to explore case studies and effective practices and behaviors of leaders who model cultural humility in multicultural contexts.
Student Leadership Summits
+ We create heartfelt student summits where students gather and connect with each other to explore ways in which they can be agents of change in creating a positive school culture that is inclusive and respectful of all cultures. The workshops are designed to help young leaders develop self-awareness, find their voices, and lead the charge in building a better tomorrow where their campuses are united (not divided) and purposeful in creating and sustaining welcoming environments that are inclusive of everyone.
